Commonwealth Supported Places & Postgraduate Coursework Scholarships

The ANU College of Engineering and Computer Science will be awarding a small number of Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP) and Postgraduate Coursework Scholarships in 2019.

What is a Commonwealth Supported Place?

A CSP can save you a significant amount of money on your tuition fees, in some cases more than 50% on the cost of full-fee graduate study. With a CSP, you will instead pay the equivalent of undergraduate fees for your graduate coursework program. Information on Commonwealth Supported fee amounts is available here.

What is a Postgraduate Coursework Scholarship?

The successful recipient(s) of this scholarship will receive a 25% tuition fee reduction for the duration of their CECS owned degree. Learn more here.

Eligibility & Selection

To be eligible for a CSP, you must:

  • be an Australian citizen, a New Zealand citizen or the holder of a permanent visa.
  • meet the relevant citizenship and residency requirements
  • be a continuing or commencing postgraduate coursework student in one of the following programs:

*Applicants with conditional offers may apply for a CSP but they are required to meet any outstanding conditions by the first Friday of January for Semester 1 intake and by the end of June for Semester 2 intake. Applicants that are unsuccessful in a CSP will be automatically considered for a Postgraduate Coursework Scholarship.

To be eligible for a postgraduate coursework scholarship, you must:

Please note that there are limited CSP and Postgraduate Coursework Scholarships and selection is highly competitive. Not all applicants will be successful.

Eligible candidates will be ranked according to their Grade Point Average (GPA) or Weighted Average Mark (WAM) from their completed higher education qualification (i.e. Bachelor degree) and current ANU coursework studies (if applicable). The Postgraduate Coursework Scholarship may give preference to support female and/or students from identified diversity/equity/access backgrounds.

Students are expected to take up their CSP in the semester for which it was offered. Applications for deferral will only be considered in exceptional circumstances and should be made in writing to the respective College Dean. Please note that work commitments will not be considered sufficient grounds for deferral of a CSP.

The CSP is available for the prescribed duration of the program in which you initially enrol. Some Colleges may consider keeping your CSP if you transfer to another Program within the same College. These cases will be considered on a case-by-case basis and please contact your enrolling College for further information.

If you withdraw from your program the CSP is forfeited.

You will be subject to the usual rules of the program for which you are enrolled. Student contribution amounts for new and continuing students by ANU are assessed in accordance with the amount stipulated by the Government for Commonwealth supported students. Current amounts for CSP are given at Study Assist.
